Quiet Eyes
This song is about an early love of mine. We never forget our first loves.
Blackwell Creek
This song is about the fondness my wife, Kat, and I feel about our neighborhood in Big Canoe. It's like living in a state park.
Small Town Girl
A woman I worked with years ago in San Francisco was unsure of herself and made it difficult for me to do my job. There's some anger here but also some sympathy.
Every Truth I Knew
Sometimes it feels like we once knew the truth about the big questions and that we have just forgotten this along the way. Maybe you've felt this way as well.
The Gathering Sky
This song was inspired by the death of a good friend in a military training exercise when we were both 23. It's an age when we felt invincible and the loss made me see mortality differently.
Mainly for Maggie
This was for a friend whose parents both died within a few months of each other leaving her to take care of the family while she was in her early twenties. It's for everyone who ever comforted a friend after a loss.
About
Shiraz Alikhan was born in the Fiji Islands and grew up in northern California where he came of age during the exciting San Francisco music scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He took in great musical performances at the Fillmore West, Winterland, Golden Gate Park, the San Francisco Civic Auditorium and other venues while he also performed in coffeehouses and was a member of several bands who performed at wedding receptions, dances and corporate events.
Since moving to Georgia, Shiraz has performed at social gatherings in Big Canoe as a solo performer and as co-founder of the band Off the Record. Most notably, he has been a regular performer at the monthly Acoustic Showcase events. Shiraz feels inspired in his performances by the natural beauty of Big Canoe and the wonderful friendships that he and his wife, Kat, have enjoyed here.
His love of music led him to an opportunity to host a radio program on ITG Radio in July of 2019 where he focuses on music from the San Francisco scene.
